I was rooting through my loft the other day and I found something a bit special

Some of you people out there in Internet land may have noticed my lack of updating on this site by me for a few weeks, or however long it has been. There is a reason for this and it is a simple one at that. Fallout 3. I’ve been playing this game every day since I got it a few weeks ago and I find it rather hard to stop now and write this Impression but you gotta do what you gotta do.

News: Rare hinting at new games in Banjo?
Posted by Peter @ 12:04am on 17th November 2008 GMT

Cranky Gamers have recently found a juicy hint about games that are possibly in development at Rare thanks to an easter egg in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.

If it’s true net Jet Force Gemini, Killer Instinct, Battletoads and Grabbed by Ghoulies games could be on the way.

It’s a nice thought, but chances are very great that this was thrown in to the game purely to see how many gaming sites would be sent into a frenzy about it… DAMMIT!

It could be safe to say that Valve are one of the most respected developers in the industry. I mean they created one of the best FPS’s ever, Half Life and probably one of the best online games ever, Teem Fortress 2, also one of the most dedicated online communities, Counter Strike : Source, and just generally one of the best games ever, Portal. So, it is no surprise that their latest game, Left 4 Dead is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Albeit somewhat quieter than some of the bigger games of the year. Valve, being the nice people that they are have released a demo to show off this game to the world, and it still manages to be a great game, even if it does have some flaws.

Review: Dead Space
Posted by Michael @ 1:26pm on 8th November 2008 GMT

Dead Space isn’t just a game, it is an experience, That what EA is aiming for with their new franchise Dead Space. Because, Dead Space isn’t just a game, it is a universe. It is a Comic, a animated film and a game. And EA are thinking of expanding this universe, with another game an a live action film. So EA must have faith in the game if they are making such a big thing about it right? Well, maybe for the first time with a EA in house game, they were right. Because, Dead Space is amazing. It is one of the best survival horror games to come out since Resident Evil 4. Which might not sound much, seeing as the Survival Horror has been dead recently, but believe me, this is a good game.

For the love of God when will the wait end‽

The year is drawing to a close. All the big name games are hitting the shelves. And people are already starting to pick their games of the year. And strangely, with games like Fable II, Little Big Planet and Grand Theft Auto 4, an indie game called World of Goo is taking the top spot on quite a few of these lists. And by playing this demo, it is clear to see why.

Mirrors Edge is one of the most hyped and interesting games of this year. It is a completely new and fresh idea. But it is one of those ideas that is completely bewildering. The idea of a first person Free Running game is one a chat would have been laughed off a couple of years back. But it is here, in demo form anyway.

Blog: So I’m off Live until the 19th…
Posted by Peter @ 2:56am on 4th November 2008 GMT

As you may already be aware, the New Xbox Experience was leaked on the Internet over the weekend after Microsoft started their preview program for the service. Those who are not on Microsoft’s list and are found to be running the current update through either downloading the update from unofficial sources or swapping harddrives will find their Xbox Live connection bricked until the 19th November when the service is officially released for all.

A little reminder: If you get your hands on NXE and you are NOT in the Preview Program. You won’t be allowed on LIVE. - Major Nelson

Blog: So many games, so little time
Posted by Peter @ 3:22am on 31st October 2008 GMT

My copy of Far Cry 2 arrived in the post last Friday and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. It’s going to take me a while to complete, not because it’s a massive game but because there are so many other games that are due out in the coming weeks.

At the moment, I’ve got copies of Mirror’s Edge, Left 4 Dead and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts on pre-order, I’m currently downloading the Call of Duty: World at War PC beta and my interest in Fallout 3 is also increasing on a daily basis. With regards to the latter, I have to urge myself not to order a copy since I’m going to have waaaay too much going on gaming-wise.

At least I can take comfort in the fact I didn’t like Gears of War. With Gears of War 2 just around the corner, that’s one less game to worry about!

News: PC Left 4 Dead demo on its way
Posted by Peter @ 3:45am on 30th October 2008 GMT

If you’ve pre-ordered your copy of Left 4 Dead through Valve’s Steam service, you will be entitled to play the demo before everyone else on the 6th November. If you’re still skeptical about this game and haven’t pre-ordered yet, fear not for the public demo will be made available on the 11th November, roughly a week before the game is released. The demo will feature single player and co-op versions of one of the game’s campaigns.

The game itself will be released on the 21st November.

Blog: Miyamoto - Not a big fan of Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess?
Posted by Peter @ 3:27am on 30th October 2008 GMT

In a recent interview with MTV Multiplayer, Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned some mild criticism’s for the latest entries to the Zelda and Mario series’:

“What I’ve been saying to our development teams recently is that “Twilight Princess” was not a bad game, by any means. But, still, it felt like there was something missing. And while, personally, I feel like “Super Mario Galaxy” was able to do some things that were very new and were very unique, at the same time, from another perspective, certain elements of it do feel somewhat conservative in terms of how far we branched out with design. And so this is something I’ve been talking to both of those teams about.

Of course, as is customary with Nintendo, it’s very rare that we are able to announce any games until they’re ready for release, but I can say that these are themes that both of those teams are taking into account and the hope is that for both of those franchises, when we do release the next installments of the “Zelda” [franchise] or maybe the next “Galaxy,” hopefully they will feel newer and fresher than their most recent versions.”
